Monterosa Sabot Race

The competition of the sabots will be an excellent opportunity to wear the typical wooden shoes of Ayas and to try your hand at a fun race in Periasc for the little ones and on the neighboring paths for the older ones. A wonderful opportunity to see one of the most beautiful villages in the Ayas Valley.

Not only does Holland have its wooden clogs, also Monte Rosa, in particular the Val d’Ayas has its own. The use of sabots is a fashion imported from the Nordic world, a success that saw the birth of a large number of professionals: according to some testimonies, at the end of 1800 the sabotiers of Ayas were about 400 and, if primarily it was a prerogative of the Aosta Valley alone, in a short time, already at the end of the seventeenth century, it reached and conquered Piedmont becoming the pivot of economic and social life.

The race consists of a route in the old village of Periasc in Ayas, on the way there are two stop points where you need to stop and have a beer first in order to continue. In addition to being able to run with beer in their bodies, true saboteurs still have to overcome 2 obstacles:

- the water slide

- the click between hay and sawdust

All those who reach the finish line will be rewarded.
