Colle Bettaforca

A splendid summer itinerary which becomes a stimulating excursion in the winter for alpine skiers.

Departing from the Frachey ski station in Val d’Ayas you go up in the cable car to the Alpe Ciarcerio at a height of 1,992 metres above sea level.

After getting out of the cable car, you turn left and following the green flags go through a centuries old conifer forest following a soft and winding track. On the edges of the forest you will see the characteristic and stunning Walser village of Resy from where you can enjoy the incredible panorama of upper Ayas. From this inhabited area of rare beauty, groomed by the snowcats, the track gets wider as it follows the farm road, signalled by green posts and then becomes fairly flat as you continue to the Bettaforca chairlift. You continue under the poles of the ski station on a slightly more demanding route until at the last wall with two diagonal tracks you reach the exit of the chairlift. Looking towards the horizon you will see the Gran Paradiso glacier, Monte Zerbion, the Nana Valley and the Gran Tournalin. With a last small crosswise effort you will arrive at the Sant’Anna-Colle Betta chairlift on the Gressoney side of the ski resort where you can relax at the “2727 Colle Betta” mountain refuge.
