The Sant’Anna Market: passion and craftsmanship under the open sky

Friday 15th August

By: Monterosa Ski

Mercatino

Feel the fresh mountain air blending with the scent of freshly worked wood: a balsamic fragrance of resin and bark that calls to mind lush forests and the energy of alpine woods. Nearby, the enveloping aroma of freshly aged cheeses spreads, with hints of alpine herbs, fresh milk, and sun-dried hay.

It is here, in the green Sant’Anna Plain, that on August 15th a special event comes to life: the Craft and Local Products Market. An authentic experience for those who want to live a day full of tradition and nature, where every step tells stories of artisans and genuine flavors.

At dawn, the meadow awakens with vibrant energy, filled with voices and colors. The hands of the artisans move with care, transforming wood and stone into tangible stories, unique pieces that seem to whisper ancient legends. Among delicate lace, warm wool and hemp fabrics, and jewelry shining in the sun like little treasures, the market becomes a gallery of wonders that delights the eye and heart. Here every object is a small jewel, born from passion and mastery, ready to tell you mountain stories.

Where taste becomes poetry, the Il Riccio Cooperative of Lillianes reveals its secrets: chestnuts wrapped in honey, rustic flours, and chestnut creams, even in delicious chocolate and hazelnut versions. Nearby, the flavors of Canavese by Bontà di Montiglie entice the most curious palates with specialties born from the land and a love for genuine food.

And the children? Their smiles light up among colorful games, lively balloons, and surprises that make this day unforgettable for them as well.

Reaching the Sant’Anna Plain is a simple and spectacular journey. The lifts, like invisible threads suspended between sky and earth, gently guide you through enchanted landscapes straight to the vibrant heart of the event.

If you are already in the Gressoney Valley, the Staffal-Sant’Anna cable car takes you comfortably and directly to the plain, ready to welcome you. Coming from the Ayas Valley, the journey continues with the Frachey-Alpe Ciarcerio funicular, followed by the Alpe Mandria and Bettaforca chairlifts, until you reach the Plain via the Sant’Anna-Colle Betta chairlift. If you start from Alagna, in Valsesia, the route becomes an adventure through alpine peaks: ascend to Passo dei Salati, descend to Staffal in Gressoney Valley, and then continue toward the Bettaforca side.

The ticket for the Staffal-Sant’Anna cable car costs €11.00 for adults. If you come from the Ayas Valley or Valsesia, the price is €32.00. Discounts apply for youth born after October 31, 2008, while children born after October 31, 2016, travel free when accompanied by an adult with a ticket.

Don’t miss this opportunity: come immerse yourself in the scents, sounds, and colors of the most authentic mountain. On August 15th, the Sant’Anna Plain awaits you with a market that is more than just a celebration: it’s an experience to live with all your senses, an invitation to return home with memories scented with wood, honey, and freedom.
