Easy-access hut for walks and hikes in the heart of the Aosta Valley
The Refuge has cosy, wood-furnished dormitories that can accommodate up to a maximum of 45 people for an unusual experience in the high mountains in a warm, family environment.
Located at 2600 metres in the grassy basin of the upper Alpe Tournalin, the Grand Tournalin Refuge is a three-storey building made of copper and stone. Built in 1994 by the Becquet family, the hut has 45 beds ready to accommodate hikers of all levels in cosy, wood-furnished rooms with 4 to 8 beds.
In recent years, in an ecological perspective, the owners have made some changes to the structure:
photovoltaic panels to produce electricity
wood-fired cooker for hot water
space suitable for separate waste collection
use of biodegradable products in catering (e.g. coffee cups)
use of biodegradable paper (e.g. paper towels in toilets)
possibility of discounts for large groups of hikers.
Situated along the Alta Via della Valle d'Aosta number 1, thanks to its easy accessibility the Refuge is suitable for all levels of hikers, from beginners to experienced mountaineers.
In addition, the mountain hut can be reached by MTB or E-Bike thanks to the road that runs through the Nana valley.
Inside, the Grand Tournalin Refuge has a large dining room that can accommodate up to 80 people.
The kitchen offers traditional Valdostan dishes, carefully prepared, as tradition dictates, on the wood-burning stove; from the classic polenta to apple pies and the tart made with Ayas wholemeal flour, baked in the wood-burning oven. Polenta and carbonada is the main dish, but special attention is paid to the cheeses from the Fromagerie Haut Val d'Ayas and the goat's milk cheeses from the goats that graze in the meadows around the refuge.
Ascents by taxi with lunch at the refuge are organised.
Trip (ascent + descent) with lunch (drinks not included) 45.00 euro per person. Min. 4 people.

A cosy bar is at guests' disposal, where they can enjoy: drinks, excellent beers, such as La Bière d'Ayas (0 km beer produced in the village) and the Valle d'Aosta craft beer " Les Bières du Grand St. Bernard " (try the génépy beer, which goes well with our cakes), grappas and liqueurs from Valle d'Aosta
